Customizing your email template

The email template gets used when emailing the upgrade to brand new subscribers. You can customize the design and text associated with this email.

To get started, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Content Upgrades -> Settings.
  2. Click the “Email” tab.

On this page, you’ll see all of the text settings and you can change them here. But to start working on the design, you need to click the button that says, “Click to Launch the Email Designer”.

This will open up the Customizer. There are several different panels:

  • Settings – Contains the same text-based settings you saw on the main email settings page.
  • Template – Global design settings for the email template.
  • Header – Settings for the header of the email. Upload your own custom logo.
  • Body – Change the colours for the main email text area.
  • Footer – Change the colours in the email footer.

Customizing the Email Template Text

In the actual “Email Template”, you can write out the exact text that will be sent to new subscribers. You will need to use some placeholders here. The available placeholders are:

  • {email} – The email address of the person receiving the email.
  • {fname} – The first name of the person receiving the email. If no first name was entered then the “First Name Fallback” is used. So if you choose “there” for the fallback, then “Hi {fname}” would turn into “Hi there”.
  • {lname} – The last name of the person receiving the email. If no last name was entered then the “Last Name Fallback” is used.
  • {link} – The URL to the content upgrade itself. This needs to be put in HTML link tags. This is recommended:
    <a href="{link}" class="ecu-button">Download Now</a>
It’s important to use the ecu-button class in order to get the button design.
  • {content_upgrade_name} – The name of the content upgrade you’re sending. This is what you entered in the content upgrade’s title box.
